PROPANE DAYS 2008

Georgia members of the propane industry once again charged Capitol Hill in May for Propane Days with 14 members. A total of 311 industry members from 44 states participated in this year's event.

Each year the industry gathers in Washington, DC for multiple activities which begins with the presidential summit and concludes with visits to each state's senators and Congressional leaders. Newt Gringrich was the keynote speaker on Tuesday. He spoke to a packed house on the importance of national energy policy that makes sense and allows the U.S to become energy independent.

Tucker Carlso, of MSNBC's talk show "Tucker" entertained the crowd while attempting to "explain" the inner workings of politics in our nation. His anecdotal assessment of politics, world issues and pop-culture brougth levity to the many negative events effecting our economy, businesses and every day lives.

Attendees from Georgia were very fortunate to attend a dual meeting with Senators Isakson and Chambliss. Additionally, they were able to attend meetings with nearly every member of the House of Representatives from Georgia. Hot topics included: The high cost of petroleum based products, The Chemical Facility Security Anti-Terrorism Standards, re-authorizing the tax credits for propane vehicles, refueling infrastructure and propane used as a motor fuel, and extending the tax credits for energy efficient water heaters, furnaces and fans.

Dealer companies can be reimbursed $500 for a participant to attend Propane Days each year (5 attended this year). The Association will also provide meals and limited transportation during our visit to all attendees.

Propane Days is also an excellent opportunity for families to visit our nation's capitol and explore all the wonders of our nation's capitol and explore all the wonders of our nation's history. President-Elect, Lynda Humm has brought her family for a couple of years and her children have a great time. There are so many things to see it can-not be done in just a couple of days.

This three day event is also a great opportunity for folks to attend an NPGA board meeting. Advocacy is NPGA's primary mission; members can see first hand how that mission is accomplished.

Propane won't ignite when combined with air unless the source of ignition reaches at least 920 degrees Fahrenheit. In contrast, gasoline will ignite when the source of ignition reaches only 430 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
